Difference Magnet and ceramic therapy

We often get this question at Equinics.  The two technologies are similar in function and are both favorable for horses, but differ in their way of impact.

Ceramic particles work by reflecting the body heat of the horse, which - just like magnetic therapy - increases blood circulation. Because the horse naturally gives off the most heat when it is on the move, ceramic particles have the strongest effect when the horse is working.

On the other hand, magnetic therapy works at the horse at rest. It should be noted that there is no scientific evidence, but that a large number of people and horses feel their effect.

We will try to list the most important differences here.

Ceramic therapy

It is generally known and documented that infrared heat radiation increases blood circulation. Increased blood circulation helps to remove waste, reduce the structure of lactic acid, increase the flexibility and shorten the recovery time to improve performance.

The specially developed ceramic material that is incorporated into the products converts the body heat of the horse into infrared heat radiation and reflects it back into the body, where the tissue penetrates and increases blood vessels. The heat radiation means increased blood circulation and supply of oxygen to the tissue and faster drainage of waste. This reduces tensions, aches and inflammations, while tendon and joint functions are improved.

Ceramic therapy products can be used repeatedly and washed without losing the effect of the material. They are suitable for use before and after the training and competition, in the stable in the meadow and during transport. The effect of ceramic products is reinforced when used during activity (driving, lunging, work by hand)

Magnet therapy

Magnetic therapy is becoming increasingly popular and has many positive effects for horses of all ages.

The magnetic field generated by the magnets in the products has a relaxing effect on the blood vessels, muscles and the soft tissue. As a result, an improved oxygen supply and blood circulation can take place, which contributes to an accelerated/improved recovery and healing process.

The improved blood circulation can help relieve pain and relieve symptoms of arthritis and wear. Magnet therapy is also good for the overall well -being of your horse and for a more relaxed horse.

As long as the magnet is sufficiently powerful, and a magnetic field will be created that it is strong enough to penetrate the body. The effect of the magnet depends, among other things, on the size, thickness and type. Magnets don't heal. It is the magnetic field that ensures that the circumstances in which the repair/healing process can be accelerated or improved.

Magnet therapy;

  • Can be used daily for an effective (er) warm-up in the training;
  • Works relaxing, so also good for horses with stress, on transport or just as extra wellness. Many customers report back that they in particular experience a relaxing effect when using the magnetic blankets;
  • Can make a positive contribution during the recovery process of, for example, tendon injuries, stiffness or muscle pain and in disorders such as osteoarthritis.

It is often advised to use most magnet products at rest only and also not after training on a sweaty horse.

One last simple but practical: magnet products are more difficult to wash (compared to ceramic products).

Remember: This info blog is based on our (the people behind Equinics) personal experience, both in terms of the problems, products, therapies and gadgets that are discussed, but also in terms of our horse experience in general. 😃 We would like to emphasize that we think you should always ask your vet for advice if your horse needs help.😊
