What is propolis?
Propolis, often called "bee glue," is a natural substance that honey bees use to seal cracks and holes in their hives. Propolis not only has a sealing function, but also has a disinfectant effect and protects the bee colony against the outbreak of diseases. Honey bees collect resin from coniferous trees and exudates from certain deciduous trees and mix them with saliva and beeswax to form a sticky, resinous substance. The resin often comes from trees such as poplar, birch, pine and spruce, and the resin itself often has inherent antimicrobial properties that enhance propolis' innate protective properties.
