The Stellar Halter offers the perfect balance between safety and practicality. The inspiration behind the design
Driven by a deep commitment to the welfare and safety of horses, Equilibrium set out to investigate the standards for halters, equipment that most horse owners use every day. The results of the study were shocking and revealed alarming numbers of injuries. That was the beginning of a determined commitment to delving deeper into halter testing and safety.
Equilibrium is committed to continuously evaluating and developing its products. After thorough research into halter safety and with valuable feedback from their dedicated customer base, they saw an opportunity to further improve the design of the Stellar halters by providing a bespoke release system to suit the size and weight of each horse. The safety system is now located on the right side of the halter, eliminating the need to replace the entire neck piece and making it easy to adjust.
To further investigate the safety of halters, Equilibrium asked Dr David Marlin to test the release points of different types of halters and attachments. The results showed a wide variation, from some halters releasing at 9kg to some halters only releasing at 600kg - more than the average horse weight.
Equilibrium conducted various tests to further develop the halter concept. Straps of different lengths were tested to measure their maximum load before release. This made it possible to tailor the correct strap and release weight to the specific horse size, with the average release based on 10-15% of the horse or pony's weight.
That is why the different sizes of halters are adjusted to an average of:
Small/pony = 45 kg.
Medium/Cob = 58 kg.
Large/Full = 68 kg.
X Large/X-Full = 83 kg.
The release system has been tested to release consistently, up to 10 times. Equilibrium recommends replacing the safety strap after 10 pulls (or if the Velcro does not adhere properly) to ensure the strap's effectiveness.
