Medicinal honey is an effective means of treating infected wounds or wounds at risk of infection, due to its particularly high content of antimicrobial ingredients. Regular honey can also contain enzymes and other active substances, but in such small concentrations that they have no effect on harmful bacteria. 

What is the effect of medicinal honey on a wound?

Case studies and clinical studies have shown that the antibacterial effect is the most important role of Revamil honey in the wound healing process. The antibacterial effect is mainly due to the high enzyme content of the honey. In a moist wound environment, the enzyme glucose oxidase ensures a slow and sustained release of small amounts of hydrogen peroxide. This effectively kills the bacteria without affecting the granulation tissue.
